Carly Rae Jepsen has joined the group Train in pulling out of July's Boy Scouts of America Jamboree concert in West Virginia, the "Call Me Maybe" singer announced via Twitter on Tuesday, March 5. Citing the organization's refusal to allow openly gay or transgender candidates to join, Jepsen explained her decision in a series of tweets.
"As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer," the 27-year-old Canadian pop star wrote. "I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe."

The "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" singer -- who is currently on the road with Justin Bieber -- was subsequently praised by GLAAD's vice president of communications, Rich Ferraro.

"No fair-minded media outlet, corporation or celebrity will want to partner with the BSA as long as the organization puts discrimination and anti-gay bias before the needs of young people," Ferraro told Us Weekly in a statement. "GLAAD will continue to call for partners of the BSA to speak out against the anti-gay ban until the BSA puts Scouting first and adopts a national non-discrimination policy. Carly Rae Jepsen and Train's decisions not only send the right message to the BSA, but remind LGBT young people that they are supported and accepted."

Train, known for hits like "Drops of Jupiter" and "Hey, Soul Sister," said they would participate in the Jamboree event if the organization changed its policy to be more inclusive.

Fingers crossed Julie Bowen doesn't start wearing sneakers on the red carpet. The Modern Family actress appears on the April cover of Lucky, where she explains how her fashion sense has evolved since joining the cast of ABC's top-rated comedy.
"It was a big evolution in style for me to grow up and say, 'I need to take fashion seriously for my job.' I have a stylist now, and she's trying to get me to wear more revealing stuff. She's Kristen Stewart's stylist," the Emmy winner says, referencing Tara Swennen. "I go there and see all this amazing funky stuff, and I know it's for her. If I get K-Stew's castoffs, that's all right with me."

Bowen admits that she's never been too concerned about her appearance, and she gets flustered when magazines label her "beautiful."

"I don't even know what to say about that, because then, I'd have to acknowledge I was some kind of attractive ideal, and that's just not the way I was raised," the 43-year-old married mother of three says. "Plus, I feel like I look like the pale girl in some Flemish painting."

Julie Bowen

The blonde star credits the Modern Family staff with giving her solid material that isn't reliant on her looks or her comedic abilities. "Our writers are flexible enough to write to my strengths and open-minded enough to imagine Claire in a car pool and naked in a hot spring," she said of a recent Season 4 episode. "I needed good material. I'm not like Amy Poehler, who can make anything funny."

"People like Claire because at the end of the day, she's a good mom," Bowen tells Lucky of her character. "I am quite sure there are plenty of people who could play Claire. I was just in the right place at the right time."

“McKayla Maroney Is Not Impressed” Creator Meets His Inspiration, Is Impressed

Gymnast McKayla Maroney may have been pretty mad when she had to settle for a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics last summer. But at least her priceless reaction inspired an incredible meme, which is worth far more than gold!
Gavin Alaoen is the face behind the of the phenomenally popular and super-hilarious McKayla Is Not Impressed tumblr, which became a runaway success in August. ”The idea came just on a whim, because I knew of other memes like Kim Jong-Il Looking at Things and Spock Is Not Impressed existed so I thought this could fit in that category,” he told us. “Also since the Olympics were big at the time, I thought this could be something funny and share-able.”
Gavin knocked it out of the park, wracking up over 850 submissions in one month alone! It got so much attention that even McKayla herself had to take note. “After a couple more days, I heard someone tweeted the tumblr site to her, and that she had tweeted back that she had seen it. So it was cool seeing her take notice, but also how she sort of took it on as part of her persona.”
All of Gavin’s hard photoshop work paid off, as he recently was able to meet with the object of his tribute, Miss McKayla herself! She recently stopped by our NYC headquarters on to promote 7Up Ten on our very own Big Morning Buzz Live. The 17-year-old athlete was indeed impressed with the new low-cal drink, and with Gavin’s site. In fact, she had nothing but awesome things to say about the tumblr. ”It made my career go in a different way. It was definitely weird but I took it in a positive way.” Gavin made sure that she knew he didn’t mean the meme in a disrespectful way. “I don’t think you were trying to make fun of me. I’m not mad. I’m very thankful for you. I’ve accepted it and I’m turning it into something positive, and this is why I’m here today. So thank you!”
And, of course, the pair took a photo in the classic pose. Although we have a funny feeling that at least one of them is impressed.

Elizabeth Banks’ Effie Trinket Marks The Start Of The “Capitol Portraits”

Why is this cool even though we realize it’s a marketing tool? Because it’s a pretty cool marketing tool and because anything to do with The Hunger Games makes us salivate. Admit it, you’re as curious about the Capitol Portraits as we are. A new “portrait” will be released intermittently until Catching Fire releases in November. And judging by the name, they will all be portraits of members of the Capitol. The series kicks off with a striking image of Elizabeth Banks‘ character, Effie Trinket and the look seems to be far more stylized than the previous film. Besides, we’re totally digging the saturated, yet vintage feel of this portrait. Any guesses to who’ll be next? Seneca Crane? Caeser Flickerman?

Jay Baruchel And Alison Pill Break Off Their Engagement

Jay Baruchel and Alison Pill getting engaged back in 2011 was kind of awesome. Like the perfect indie union of two slightly dorky, souls. Alison’s reaction to that embarrassing incident of tweeting her own topless picture by accident made us love her even more. Besides us being complete The Newsroom fans, of course. So two hear that these two crazy kids weren’t going to end up together, after all of that, made us really sad. Baruchel and Pill are no longer engaged, and have also split up. What an awesome wedding it was going to be too, considering the actor told US Weekly early last year that they were, “… getting married at an ice wine vineyard. Me and the groomsmen will all be wearing kilts! We’ll be welcomed in by uilleann pipers. It will be a very small, 70 person wedding, just friends and family …I’m really excited to see all the…hairy, chubby legs. I just hope my groomsmen wear underwear!” Sources say that their schedules and the long distance relationship thing took its toll, revealing, “Working and living in Canada is something that [Baruchel] is very passionate about. He wanted her up there more often, but she really likes Newsroom and the opportunities that are there for her. They were doing the long distance [thing] a lot.” Not too late for a reconciliation, guys!

Taylor Swift Slams Amy & Tina, Lets A Friend Dish About Harry Styles To Vanity Fair

A fresh-faced Taylor Swift covers next month’s Vanity Fair. In the magazine, she apparently says “there’s a special place in Hell for women” like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, calls the media’s twisting of her dating life “sexist,” and refuses to dish on her relationship with Harry Styles, but authorizes a friend to gab all to the interviewer.

When asked about how she felt about the jokes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made at her expense at The Golden Globes, Swift weirdly replied, “You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people…Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’” Ouch.
Throughout the profile, Swifty seems to want to have it both ways. She decries the media’s portrait of her as “some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend” as “frankly a little sexist”, but then she lets “an authorized source”, aka a best friend, spill all of the beans on her relationships with Harry Styles and Connor Kennedy to Vanity Fair contributing editor Nancy Jo Sales.
Styles reportedly “wore her down” for almost a year. Ultimately it was Styles’s cheating ways that drove Taylor away. According to Tay-Tay’s pal, “the relationship fell apart after he texted Swift to alert her of a picture on the Internet of him kissing a friend good-bye. They were ‘making out like with their hands all up in each other’s hair.’”
Overall, it seems as though Swift lacks a tiny bit of self awareness. Take this line for instance: “As she sits drinking lavender lemonade in her ‘Tim Burton–Alice in Wonderland–pirate ship–Peter Pan‘ apartment, Swift continues, ‘It’s why I have to avoid the tabloid part of our culture, because they turn you into a fictional character.”
And this is all from a single excerpt from the profile! The full article hits newsstands in the April 2013 edition of Vanity Fair magazine. We can hardly wait.

Rihanna Debuts Her “Double Pants” Look At River Island Launch Party

We’re thinking that Rihanna got fed up with our constant jokes about  her never wearing pants. That’s the only way we can explain this bizarre double-bagged jeans look she wore to her River Island launch after-party in London last night.
It doesn’t look horrible by any stretch of the imagination. But that’s mostly because it’s Rihanna and she can wear anything…including two pairs of pants over one another. But it’s probably not her finest fashion hour either, so we’d like to take this moment to apologize for our “no pants” related jibes over the years. Seriously Riri, we officially retire them now.
But the shindig at the DSTRK club in Oxford Circus seemed to go down pretty well, multi-pants aside. She made sure to party hardy in celebration of her new clothing line collection, which was just as provocative and daring as her own personal style. We’d expect nothing less from this good girl gone bad!
